Subject:since I can't sleep...my third post of the day/week/month *shock horror*
Time:2:02 am.
Mood: nostalgic.
Here is an interesting article about the 1920's style movie theatre I used to work at in Richmond, Virginia:

It's so sad how many beautiful places like this have been lost to soulless clones. It's a relief to know that the Byrd will still be there for many many years to come.

That was my favourite place to work for an unskilled university 'getting by' job. I worked there for about 2.5 years, it was almost a second home. I even slept during movies sometime on the plush velvet sofas in the balcony when I had stayed up too late studying (or partying!) and worked many many hours there saving up to fulfill my dream to come to London. If only it was in London I'd probably still work there part-time!

Look how pretty:

Subject:Please tell me your best cold remedies...
Time:6:03 pm.
Mood:still sick.
...besides sleep, water, echinecia, vit C, lots of sudafed nose spray, ibuprofen, lots of chili sauce. Trying all of that.

I really need to get rid of this cold of doom by tommorrow as have to go to work (been off for three days due to asthma, stomach bug and now cold of doom, in that order) but can't bear the thought of 1 hr on the tube (each way) sneezing and blowing my raw drippy ruddolph nose to go sit in a freezing cold office for 8 hrs.

Why the hell haven't they invented a cure for colds yet!

Subject:Torture Garden tickets for sale/poor sick kitty/new job
Time:11:13 am.
We have two Torture Garden tickets for sale.

£32 each (plus £1 booking fee I think, will have to check). Let me know if you want them or know anyone who does.

Can accept paypal at Jessica at audiojelly dot com.

Our cat Scooter was taken to the vet yesterday as she had not eaten hardly anything for 6 days and she was kept in for observation/drip/blood tests. Talked to the vet this morning and she has kidney failure, at least 75% for toxins to show up in the blood, which is unusual for a cat that is only 10 yrs old. So she either ate something poisonous (which is highly unlikely, as she is very picky about what she eats and doesn't go outside much). Or it is congenial. Or she has a tumour. We are waiting for results of an ultrasound now to rule out the last possibility.

So yeah, that's why we can't go to TG...so far we are up to around £500 in vet bills. We might have to cancel at least one of our two holidays this summer as well.

Bollocks bollocks and more bollocks.

And before anyone says 'you should have got pet insurance', it would have been very expensive (if they would have covered her anyway, most stop covering new cats around 10) as she is already considered an old cat. We only got her 10 months ago from her previous owner, who didn't have insurance for her either. For those that don't konw, they have 4 other cats, and 3 of them were bullying poor Scooter to the point she wouldn't leave the cupboard, so we adopted her.

In slightly better news, I had an internal job interview last Friday for a position in the Civil Aviation deptarment in my company (I work in the Maritime Dept now). Similar position as now (Administrator/Office Monkey) and same money but in a nicer/smaller department that will hopefullly give me more oppourtunities. And without my arsehole bosses. And as Alan says 'planes are cooler then ships'.

Well I got the job!

Should be happy right now but not really as too worried about poor little Scooter. : (

Subject:Can you home this cat?: post from miss_soap
Time:12:39 pm.
"Can anyone offer a home to a Tabs?

He's 5, long haired, outdoorsy, neutered, quiet, not very good with children because he's not been around them much, must have access to a garden. He's very pretty; I will try to get hold of a photo.

He will be put down on Monday if no-one can offer him a good home; his owners are emigrating.

He's currently up North on the Wirral but I will drive up and get him this weekend if anyone can offer him a home in London.

Edit: I've just been told that the vet's appointment has already been made for Monday [I can't quite believe this] and that it WILL happen unless we can find someone to take him.

Paul won't let me take him.

Please pass this around your friends lists"

Edit: Home now found!

Subject:If you care about human rights please watch and sign this...
Time:2:15 pm.
Pedro Zamora was the president of our affiliated Dockworkers union in Guatemala and he was brutally murdered (in front of his kids) for being a trade unionist and trying to keep his members jobs in the face of a massive port takeover. I attended a seminar at lunchtime today on the campaign my work (the ITF) are running to bring his killers to justice (the Guatemalian Government have done nothing, there has been no investigation and the US are still supporting the Guatamalian Government).

Also please sign the petition here: http://www.itfglobal.org/campaigns/charterforjustice.cfm/formbuilder/37/p/1

Thank you!

Subject:London madness
Time:12:55 pm.
Don't worry, I'm okay everyone! Had just arrived at King's Cross right after it happened and was caught up in the mass chaos, tried to catch a bus, but realised they weren't going anywhere and ended up walking home. Seems the Assistant General Secretary at work has told the people who were already in they can go home too. But how the hell are they going to get home? Can still hear sirens everywhere.

Alan is okay too obviously, as he works from home.

Where can I get tickets for Skinny Puppy in August (Astoria) where I don't have to pay a whopping £3.50 a ticket booking fee plus £2.00 shipping? Does the Jazz Cafe sell them? Or the Astoria directly?

Subject:Barbican theatre ?
Time:11:38 am.
Right, who has been to the Barbican theatre and sat in the Gallery (partially restricted view) seats? Can you see anything at all? How about lower down and the resticted view seats? That is all that seems to be left for Julius Caeser (staring Ralph Fiennes). Poo I just found out about this yesterday.

Time:4:37 pm.
Mood: anxious.
This is the longest day at work ever. Tommorrow might be worse as today I have nothing to do, but tommorrow I have absolutely nothing to do. I am reduced to making pointless LJ posts and I hate doing that. In fact, lately I think I have a trend of never making LJ posts at all. Can't be bothered really.

I feel drunk from cup of soup and chocolates.

Just wanted to let everyone who didn't know that Alan and I are in America visiting my folks and getting my fiance visa until the 1st of August! Just in case anyone has been trying to get ahold of us. We were so busy before we left that i think we forgot to tell some people. Flight here was a living nightmare (11 hours in the Newark, New Jersey airport!)...things here are boring and all there is to do is shop. Can't wait to get back!

Must be sociable now...
